📜 History
Badagry served as a major transit point of the transatlantic slave trade from the 17th to 19th centuries, with an estimated 500,000 enslaved Africans passing through the Point of No Return. The first storey building in Nigeria was built here in 1845 by Rev. Benjamin Tregaskis. Christianity also entered Nigeria through Badagry when the Rev. Thomas Birch Freeman arrived in 1842. The town's history of slavery, colonial resistance and cultural preservation makes it one of Nigeria's most important heritage sites.
