📜 History
Lagos Mainland was the colonial administration's link between Lagos Island and the interior of Nigeria. Ebute Metta developed as a railway terminus town after the construction of the Lagos-Kano railway in 1901. Yaba was developed by the British as a residential area for civil servants and intellectuals, and later housed the Yaba Higher College (1932), the precursor to the University of Lagos. The area has always been associated with education, activism and intellectual life in Nigeria.
